JOHN C. GARAND MATCH INFORMATION

This is info from the last planned match. There is no match plan at this time. If you are interested in helping organize one, contact MRPC president Jim Rice and let him know you would like to be involved with the next one.

John Garand was, of course, the inventor of the M1 or Garand rifle that was so instrumental to our success in World War II and Korea. The matches named after him were first fired during the National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio in the late 1990's. The concept of a basic match that anyone could enter regardless of experience and utilizing as-issued military rifles with issue ammunition caught on and these competitions have become very popular. This match is being sponsored by Medford Rifle and Pistol Club.

RIFLES: The only arms allowed are U.S. military rifles of .30-06 or .30 Carbine caliber. This permits the M1, Springfields, Enfields, The Johnson Rifle, and the M1 Carbine. Rifles must be in an as-issued condition with no modifications to the stock, sights, or metal parts. Trigger pulls will be checked and for the semiautomatic rifles should be at least 4 ½ pounds and for bolt action rifles at least 3 pounds. M1 or Springfield rifles that were originally issued as "National Match" are probably acceptable providing no after-issue modifications have been made. Rifles should be equipped with a military type leather or web sling but none will be disqualified if they choose not to use the sling. Loaner rifles will be made available for those not having their own or able to borrow from a friend.

AMMUNITION: U.S. military ball ammunition will be issued on the firing line. Do Not bring any other ammunition to the range. The cost of ammunition is included in the entry fee.

Please Note. During slow fire rifles must be single loaded. (One round at a time)

SAFETY: Safety rules will be strictly enforced. It is imperative that you bring no ammunition to the range. Anyone found with live ammunition behind the firing line will be politely asked to leave. Rifles behind the firing line must have open bolts unless they are in a case. An area off to one side of the active firing line will be made available for supervised dry firing where one can get a chance to practice loading, work out a position, or learn to use the sling.

TIME OF FIRING: Firing will begin promptly at 7:30 AM and it is planned to have at least half of the competitors fire before a lunch break. If you are scheduled to fire in the morning group you will need to be on the range by 7:00. A time will be announced for the afternoon group.
